Ron's Story

Born in Takoma Park, Maryland, I was raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC, in a middle-class family. Overcoming seemingly impossible obstacles, numerous setbacks, and many challenges is my life story in a nutshell. That has made me the man I am today. A man of faith. A man of hope. A man of courage. A bold, daring, and resilient go-getter who believes that nothing is impossible. I have reached many milestones that people told me were not possible.

Introduced by close friends in July 1992, my bride, Tracey Lynn Smith, said "I do" in October 1993.  We have two adult children. Currently, we reside in Gaithersburg, Maryland, named 2016's most diverse city in America. A great place to live, work, and play!

Throughout my life, I have been given many opportunities to serve others. I have dedicated my entire professional career to public service, currently serving in a senior management role for one of the largest and most diverse communities in the United States. I have dedicated much of my spare time to volunteering in the community. I have provided fee-based and pro-bono consultant services to multiple non-profit organizations. I have organized large community events. I have served multiple non-profit organizations as a member of their board of directors. I have dedicated a great deal of energy to encouraging, inspiring, and motivating others through speaking opportunities. As a certified trainer, I have facilitated numerous training workshops on leadership, customer service, team building, and much more.

Let me admit this before someone else tells you first: I am not perfect. I do not always get it right. I have missed the mark on occasion. Yet, I strive daily to do what is right, learn from my mistakes, help others, and make a difference. I accomplish what I set out to do, regardless of obstacles. I am a people-person through and through. I enjoy being with people, serving people, caring for people, communicating with people, leading people, and thrive in community environments.

Overall, I am truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of others throughout my community and beyond.
